Liverpool Transfer News: Luis Suarez to be replaced by Lazar Markovic

Finally, some good news for Liverpool fans who were greatly disappointed by their star striker Luiz Suarez’s switch from Anfield to Camp Nou which was confirmed last week.

Belgium’s World Cup ace Divock Origi is reportedly following in the footsteps of Serbia’s Lazar Markovic for a medical at the Merseyside club, according to Sky Italia’s transfer guru Gianluca di-Marzio. The two starlets are expected to boost Liverpool’s attacking options that were immensely hurt when the 27-year old Suarez left for Barcelona.

The 20-year old Serb reportedly flew to Liverpool on Saturday last week to undergo a medical ahead of a possible 25-million-euro move to the five-time European champions. Negotiations on his contract with the club are currently believed to be ongoing. Brendan Rogers’ men did not rest at Markovic, as they are also seeking the signature of the highly promising 19-year old Kenyan-Belgian Origi, who broke into global acclaim with the only goal against Russia that enabled the Belgians to advance to the last 16 in the just-concluded World Cup in Brazil.

According to di-Marzio, Origi jetted into Liverpool on Wednesday last week for a medical before other negotiations on a potential contract at Anfield could continue. But the Belgian ace seems set to go back to Lille on loan for another season. He is reported to have been in Merseyside until Friday last week to complete his switch, though the latest report on what transpired has not yet been released by the English side. Spanish giants and 2013/2014 European champions Real Madrid had attempted a last-minute bid for the youngster but did not succeed.

Liverpool target Lazar Markovic showed flashes of brilliance in the 2013/2014 season at Benfica where he was termed as one of the best wingers the club has ever had. The Portuguese side are said to have agreed to Liverpool’s offer to pay off the 25-million-euro release clause that was the remaining huddle in the player’s contract subject to a medical. Markovic was part of the impressive forward line-up that led Benfica to secure a place in last season’s Europa League final.

Brendan Rogers has already secured the signatures of Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Rickie Lambert in a bid to bolster the squad as Liverpool aims to pose a better title challenge in the Premier League this season as they also compete in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2009/2010 football season.
