Sevilla FC vs Barcelona Preview

Sevilla FC vs Barcelona

Competition – Copa del Rey

Stadium – Wanda Metropolitano

Date: 21st April 2018

Kick-off time – 20:30 GMT

This season’s Copa del Rey final brings together the same teams who competed in the 2016 edition when Barcelona edged out the Seville-based side in Extra Time.

The Catalans are also looking to become the first team since the Athletico Bilbao team of the 1930s to win the cup four times in a row.

Barcelona are understandably favourites here and they would be taking their first step towards winning a domestic double with a win here as they are also closing in on the La Liga title.

However, their heavy loss to AS Roma in the Champions League has raised some doubts about how they can perform when Lionel Messi is not on the pitch or out of a game.

Sevilla on their path have been hot and cold and this is one of the major reasons why they have struggled in the La Liga this season with them lingering in seventh position and in real danger of missing out on Europe next term.

They are however, a team to fear on their day as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have found out this season.

Barcelona remain unbeaten in the La Liga this season, but their biggest test of the season came against Sevilla when they both met earlier this year.

Sevilla could have won the game by up to 6-0 as they outclassed and outplayed the Catalans for more than an hour, but failed to score more than twice and they paid the ultimate price when Lionel Messi came off the bench and inspired Barcelona to an unlikely comeback to end the game 2-2.

Sevilla’s performance in that game suggests that they will most likely score here again.

Barcelona have won seven of their last eight games against Sevilla including a 2-0 Extra Time win in the 2016 Copa del Rey final.
