Being a Marseille fan hasn’t been very exciting over the past couple of seasons and those who remained faithful to their team would be delighted to be in this final.
The French side sunk to one of their worst years when they finished 13th in Ligue 1 two seasons ago while they managed to finish fifth last season to qualify for this tournament.
This season has been a hugely successful one as they are set to finish inside the top four and could even end up in second position if AS Monaco slip up on the final day.
This is their first European final since 2004, and the last time they won a European cup was in 1993.
However, they fully deserve to be in this final after beating Salzburg, Leipzig, Athletic Bilbao and Sporting Braga to get here.
Their fans will be hoping they can crown this year with European success.
Atletico Madrid will surely be a tougher opponent than all of the aforementioned teams Marseille have faced in the past as Diego Simeone’s men who started the season badly have hit top form since the turn of the year.
Atleti beat Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon, Lokomotiv Moscow, and FC Copenhagen to get to this final after exiting the Champions League in almost embarrassing fashion.
They have made two Champions League final appearances in the last five years and won this competition in 2012 and they would feel more experienced than their French opponents here.
Marseille have won just one of their last four games, while Atleti have just three wins from their last six, so they are both not in the best form, but this game should still be exciting with the array of stars both teams have.
