Morocco vs Iran

Competition – FIFA World Cup

Stadium – Arena St Petersburg

Date: 15th June 2018

Kick-off time – 16:00 GMT

This is Morocco’s first appearance at the World Cup in 20 years and they will be giving it their very best in a really tough group which includes Spain and Portugal.

The class of their other two opponents means the team that wins this game is the side that has a small chance of going through to the knockout phase.

The Africans are favourites in this game if you take a look at the talents at their disposal.

The Atlas Lions have a Juventus centre back (Mehdi Benatia) as captain, an Ajax man (Hakim Zyech) as star midfield, and an 11 goals in 10 international games striker, Ayoub El Kaabi.

The latter has scored in 5 of his last six games for Morocco.

The Moroccans have won 14 of their last 18 games, with their opponents including South Korea, Nigeria, Serbia, Ukraine, and Slovakia.

Iran, in all honesty, do not have the talent or form of the Moroccans heading into this game.

They struggled to beat Lithuania 1-0 in their last friendly game, a result that followed a 2-1 loss to Turkey at the end of May.

The Iranians also lost to Tunisia recently and they failed to beat Syria on home soil some nine months ago.

These results make them underdogs in this game and they could give the Moroccans a good start to the competition.
