Uruguay vs France Preview

Uruguay vs France

Competition – FIFA World Cup

Stadium – Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

Date: 6th July 2018

Kick-off time – 15:00 GMT

This World Cup will go down in history as one of those World Cups that the big boys could not go far and the unfashionable teams went maybe too far.

Uruguay and France remain two of the biggest teams still left and this game would be a worthy final but unfortunately one of them has to go home after this match.

The Uruguayans started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Egypt before beating Saudi Arabia by the same score line.

In their last game against Russia, they turned on the style and beat the hosts 3-0; they have not looked back since.

After topping their group, they played Europeans champions Portugal in their Round of 16 tie.

The Portuguese are famed for their solid defence, but Edison Cavani stole the show and netted twice on either side of a Pepe equalizer.

That was their fourth win in as many games and the first time they have conceded a goal in this competition.

France started their campaign on a shaky note after a fortunate 2-1 win over Australia.  Their next game ended in a 1-0 win over Peru.

Their last match was expected to be an interesting game against Denmark, but it ended in a boring 0-0 draw.

Les Bleus faced Argentina in their round of 16 match and won 4-3 in thrilling fashion.

Kylian Mbappe was the star of that match for them and they will be hoping he can be as important in this game too, however, they face the meanest defence in this competition and that could a tough task for the teenager.

France are favourites to come out on top in this tie however Uruguay are not without support and the betting markets suggest this will be a tight, low-scoring affair.
