Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund

Competition – International Champions Cup 2018

Stadium – Soldier Field

Date: 21st July 2018

Kick-off time – 02:05 GMT

The 2018/2019 season is less than a month away and clubs have started preparing in earnest for a successful campaign.

Most teams have been playing pre-season games, but it doesn’t get bigger than the International Champions Cup.

Manchester City won the Premier League last season by a record 100 points, 19 more than 2nd place Manchester United and Pep Guardiola would be expecting his players to try and beat that record this season however they need to have a good pre-season and it starts with this match.

The Cityzens have earned the highest sum for players remaining at the World Cup this year because their players like Benjamin Mendy stayed long in the competition and that also means they will be missing the likes of Mendy, John Stones, Kyle Walker, among others for this game.

City still have the likes of Leroy Sane who was omitted from Germany’s squad and Riyad Mahrez who just joined from Leicester City for £60 million.

Borussia Dortmund started last season well before capitulating when other teams caught up with them and they will be hoping for a similar start to the new season as well as being able to sustain their level of competitiveness for longer periods.

The Germans have brought in former Nice manager Lucien Favre to help lead them this season and the Portuguese boss will be looking for a moral boosting win in this game.

Dortmund have had a busier summer transfer window than Manchester City with at least six players arriving so far including Achraf Hakimi on loan from Real Madrid for the next two seasons.

They have also sanctioned the sale of Andriy Yarmalenko and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, however, they still have good quality in their squad ahead of the new season and Christian Pulisic will be leading them in his home country and hope they get a win here.

Surprisingly, bookmakers side with Borussia Dortmund in this tie where goal markets suggest it will be a high-scoring affair.
