Girona vs Alaves Preview

This game brings together this season’s surprise team against perhaps the most disappointing team in the Spanish La Liga and it will be interesting to see if Girona can continue their impressive season or if Alaves will revive their sluggish campaign.

Girona come into this game as favourites because of their strong recent form.

They are unbeaten in five games and won three of those fixtures.

With one of the best starts to a league campaign by a newly promoted side, Girona are currently inside the top half of the table and could even end the season in the Europa League places.

Their rise has been spearheaded by two players – Christian Stuani and Portu.

Stuani is their top scorer but Portu has been impressive recently, scoring 5 goals in his last 7 league games and he will be looking to find the net against this weak Alaves defence also.

It may just be 13 league games into the season but it is hard not to see Alaves being relegated at the end of this season.

They have fired two managers already yet they have lost 11 of their 13 league games and remain bottom of the table.

For a side that had a very impressive first season back in La Liga last time out, even reaching the final of the Copa Del Rey, they have performed well beyond miserable.

They lack an attacking player who could be tasked to fire them out of relegation trouble and it will be interesting to see if they can avoid a loss here.

Alaves have scored 0.54 goals per game this season and they have not won any of their last four visits to Girona.
