Uruguay vs Portugal

Competition – FIFA World Cup

Stadium – Fisht Olympic Stadium

Date: 30th June 2018

Kick-off time – 19:00 GMT

Uruguay were favourites to top group A and despite the Russians looking unplayable in their first two games, they were rightly not a match for the South Americans who beat them 3-0 in their final group game to top the group.

With stars like Jose Jimenez and Diego Godin in defence as well as Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez in attack, the Uruguayans still struggled in their first two matches against Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

They won both games 1-0, but after turning on the style against Russia in their last game, we now expect to see the best of them in the remaining rounds starting from this game.

Portugal started their competition brightly after coming from 3-2 down to draw 3-3 against Spain in a thrilling contest.

They followed that up with a hard fought 1-0 win over Morocco, yet they needed to avoid losing their last game to guarantee progression.

They faced Iran who needed to win and the teams played out a 1-1 draw after Ricardo Quaresma became the first Portuguese player other than Cristiano Ronaldo to score at this World Cup.

Portugals game vs Iran was a game they could’ve easily lost and had it not been for some poor finishing from the Asians, the European champions could have been eliminated.

Uruguay have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last eight matches and they have not conceded a goal in their last six games in all competitions.

Bookmakers are undecided who will progress to the quarterfinals with Uruguay currently trading as slight favourites however the market is razor close.
