AS Monaco vs Marseille Preview

Since winning the Ligue 1 two seasons ago, AS Monaco have made themselves a club constantly in transition as players keep coming to and leaving the principality club en masse every summer, and this summer has been no different.

However, credit to their manager, they have remained competitive in the French league even though they haven’t reached the heights they achieved in their triumphant campaign.

They started this season with a 4-0 loss to a largely changed PSG side in the French Super Cup, but they followed that up by beating Nantes 3-1 away from home in their first league game of the season, which has been their only three points of the season so far.

Since their opening day win, they have collected just one point from a possible six, so they will be looking to earn early bragging rights over Marseille in this game.

Marseille fell short of qualifying for the Champions League last season after they finished outside the top three and lost the Europa League final to Atletico Madrid.

This season they will be looking to challenge for the Ligue 1 crown and a place in the top three again however they have started their season in an inconsistent manner.

They opened their campaign with a 4-0 home win over Toulouse before losing their next game 3-1 at Nimes.   Marseille picked up a point from a 2-2 home draw against Rennes in their most recent fixture.

This game offers Marseille a chance to prove that they are ready to challenge PSG and Monaco for the league title and they should expect a very tough game.

Surprisingly, Marseille are currently trading as favourites with bookmakers to take all three points from the Stade Louis II however the odds are extremely close and many will find Monaco appealing with home advantage on their side.

Goal markets suggest this game will have goals will over 2.5 goals currently trading odds-on.
