Villarreal vs Valencia Preview

This is one of the biggest matches of the weekend as Villarreal welcome their Derbi de la Comunidad opponents with just one point and three places separating them in the league table.

Villarreal had to wait until their last league game to finally secure a first league win of the season.

They took all three points from a tough 1-0 win over Leganes last time out, and their manager would be hoping that victory can help kick start their season.

Villarreal had made their home a fortress at the end of last season when they lost just once in seven home games, however, they have lost both of their home league games this season against Girona and Real Sociedad, so their fans will eager to see a better performance in this game.

The host also has a big goal scoring problem after netting just twice in 4 league games, but their fans should be hopeful that after scoring two goals against Rangers in midweek, the floodgates for scoring goals could open.

After impressing everyone and even finishing inside the top four last season, Valencia fans were expecting their team to start the season where they left off last time, however, after signing so many new players results are taking a little longer to come through.

They are winless in their first four league games, and after losing their first Champions League game at home to Juventus, they have not won any of their last five games in all competitions. Marcelino should begin to feel worried.

Valencia drew their first game against Atletico Madrid to earn their first of three draws and a loss in their first four La Liga games.

These two teams have scored just five goals in their combined 8 games this season and their managers will be desperate to avoid another loss especially to a derby rival.

Bookmakers have priced Villarreal up as favourites however the odds are extremely close and a tight game is expected.
