Arsenal seemed to have lost their Midas touch under Arsene Wenger as the French man’s reign came to an end last season, so most people didn’t expect much from them this season.

They started their season with two consecutive losses under Unai Emery, but the former Sevilla boss seems to have steadied the ship as they come into this game off the back of a 14 games unbeaten run.

Arsenal held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at home at the weekend to remain in the running for a place in the top four, and they have found a bit more joy in Europe as well.

The Gunners have won all of their Europa League group games so far, and their 1-0 win over Sporting in their last match showed how much better they are compared to their other group members.

Sporting Lisbon were considered second favourites in this group after Arsenal, and their 1-0 loss to the Gunners in their last match all but placed the Gunners ahead of them.

Sporting have struggled recently to win trophies as they haven’t won the Portuguese league title since 2001 with some cup wins keeping them as a member of Portugal’s biggest teams.

Sporting Lisbon have exited the group stages of the last four Champions League campaigns however they should reach the knockout round of the Europa League here as they have won two group games already and still have games against the two group underdogs to come.

Bookmakers make Arsenal heavy odds-on favourites to come out on top while goal markets point to a lively affair as over 2.5 goals is trading odds-on.
