Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona Preview

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona

Competition – Spanish Primera

Stadium – Wanda Metropolitano

Date: 24th November 2018

Kick-off time – 19:45 GMT

This is the biggest game in La Liga this weekend as Atletico welcome Barcelona to the Wanda Metropolitana in a game that could decide how the title race goes down.

Barcelona lost their last game at home to Real Betis and they will be looking to get back to form here.

A win for the Catalans would see them keep their reputation as the team to beat, however, if they lose, Atleti would move two points ahead of them and make this one of the most open title races in recent history.

Atletico Madrid have become one of Spain’s biggest teams in recent seasons and they have achieved some great things, but they have not been able to beat Barcelona in a La Liga game.

They have knocked the Catalans out of the Champions League twice and even won the La Liga crown by managing a draw in Camp Nou.

Atleti come into this game with 4 wins from their last 5 games so they should be confident that they can finally break that curse.

Barcelona are not on a run of bad form at the moment, however, the return of Lionel Messi in their last league game ended in a second defeat of the season which won’t inspire the Barcelona players.

That 4-3 loss to Real Betis was a very open game as Real Betis are an equally attack-minded team, however, this game should be different as Atleti are a team that love to play tight football.

Atleti have to deal with a depleted defence as their four main defenders are struggling with injuries this season.

They only managed a 3-2 win in their last game and that could see this game end with goals at both ends as well.

Atletico haven’t won any of their last 16 games against Barcelona in the league, but they did record a 2-0 win over the Catalans in the Champions League in 2016.

Bookmakers believe Barcelona will get the job done at the Wanda Metropolitano this Saturday evening however odds are close and Atletico will have supporters based on their strong defence.

Lionel Messi is currently the bookies favourite to score the first goal while goal markets are undecided about the number of goals this game could produce.
