The Barclays Betting Preview, Odds, Tips & Tee Times: PGA Tour

The 2013 Barclays golf tournament begins this Thursday at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City with over 100 of the worlds best players competing for the $1.4 million winners prize.

Nicky Watney won this tournament by 3 shots over Brandt Sneker last year with Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia tied third.

Despite winning this event last year, Nick Watney is an astonishing 125/1 with bookmakers to retain his title.

Tiger Woods is clear favourite with bookmakers after finishing tied 40th in the PGA Championship.  Prior to that Tiger looked unbeatable in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational winning by 7 clear shots.

UPDATE – Odds below are after round 1 and before round 2 tee times (click to enlarge, ordered by price left to right, odds subject to change/vary):

Odds Prior to Round 2.

Phil Mickelson is 18/1 despite winning the Open Championship and prior to that, the Scottish Open.

Masters champion Adam Scott is 16/1 after a very good performance in the PGA Championship (Tied 5th).

Brandt Snedeker (35/1) finished 2nd here last year and won the Canadian Open this summer.

US Open Champion Justin Rose missed the cut at the Open Championship and finished tied 33rd in the PGA Championship (30/1)

Matt Kuchar challenged for the Canadian Open title and being one of the most consistent players on tour, he will have plenty of supporters at odds of 28/1.

Hunter Mahan led the Canadian Open before withdrawing due to his wife going into labour.  He has played consistently well this year and will have plenty of supporters at 30/1.

Dustin Johnson was in contention to win the Canadian Open before driving his ball out of bounds on the 17th (22/1).

Rory Mcilroy is 18/1 after finishing tied 8th in the PGA Championship.

Jason Dufner won the PGA Championship and is 28/1.

Gamingtips Tips:

Lee Westwood is our tip for this weeks tournament – he has played consistently well this year (5 top 10 finishes) and has looked as if his game is going to fire on all cylinders soon.

He hasn’t won this year because his game hasn’t been 100% there – he has been focusing on his short game so much that his long game has suffered slightly and once he can put it all together, he is going to win tournaments.

Odds of 33/1 offer excellent value from an each-way perspective.

Although Tiger looked unstoppable in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, odds of 5/1 are still very short against such a stacked field of quality players.
