NBA 2013/2014 Preview

Tuesday 29th October see’s the eagerly anticipated beginning of this season’s NBA Championship and there are some interesting fixtures taking place on the opening night.

The season kicks off with reigning champions and highly tipped favourites (2/1) Miami Heat welcoming the world renowned Chicago Bulls (9/1) to the American Airlines Arena, looking to stamp some early authority on the championship.

Lebron James will go up against Great Britain’s Loul Deng as he begins his quest for a third straight MVP title in what promises to be an electric opening evening match up.

Opening night also sees the two LA sides come up against each other as this season’s outsiders, the Lakers host the hot prospect Clippers.

Question marks over Kobe Bryant’s health added to the departure of Dwight Howard and this has caused many to write off the Lakers before a minute has even passed. However some experts feel that Howards departure may in fact benefit the Lakers and free up space for Pau Gasol to demonstrate his brilliance. Current odds of 30/1 offer an interesting long shot for the riskier punter.

Speaking of Dwight Howard, his addition to the Houston Rockets side makes them a great price at 11/1 to win the NBA given the great start they had last year. The rockets open their season with a home tie against rank outsiders the Charlotte Bobcats who priced at 400/1 for the whole tournament will surely not pose much of a threat to Howard et al.

Another pre-season title contender, the Brooklyn Nets (9/1), visit the Cleveland Cavaliers, home of this year’s number one draft Anthony Bennett, in their opening fixture and will be looking to lay down an early marker. With ageing players such as Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry; the Nets will be hoping that experience outweighs youth this season.

My expectations resign with Miami retaining the title this season with Lebron claiming that third straight and fifth overall MVP award.

Oklahoma City Thunder also look very strong with three time NBA top scorer Kevin Durant keen to win his first Championship title.

Who do you think will win this seasons championship?
