Sweden vs Switzerland

Competition – FIFA World Cup

Stadium – Arena St Petersburg

Date: 3rd July 2018

Kick-off time – 15:00 GMT

This game brings together two Europeans in almost identical form as they both look to make a mark on this year’s competition.

Sweden started their campaign with a 1-0 win over South Korea.

They had built a reputation as a defensive side in qualification and that match was all about keeping the Koreans at bay.

Their next game was against defending World champions Germany who had lost their first match to Mexico.

They took the lead in that game and looked certain to claim a famous win, however, they relented and the Germans equalized before going on to score a late winner when Toni Kroos scored a free kick with a few seconds to go.

Their last game against Mexico was expected to be a tough one, but they made it look very easy as they ran out 3-0 winners to setup this clash.

Switzerland started their campaign with an impressive 1-1 against Brazil before coming from behind to beat Serbia 2-1 in their second game.

In their last group against Costa Rica, they needed to avoid defeat to get to this round and they played out a 2-2 draw against the already eliminated Central Americans.

They took the lead twice in that game against Costa Rica yet they allowed their opponents to equalize each time including an added time own goal.

Sweden are unbeaten in their last three games against Switzerland while the Swiss’ last victory came in October 1994 in a Euro qualifier in Bern (4-2) under Roy Hodgson.

The betting market for this game is wide open with Switzerland opening as slight favourites however Sweden and the Draw are both within half a point of eachother making this an open game.
