Saudi Arabia vs Qatar

Live betting –

Saudi Arabia meet Qatar at the King Fahd International Stadium this Thursday afternoon in their opening match of Group A in the Gulf Cup.

Saudi Arabia come into this tie off the back of a 2:0 win over Palestine.  Prior to that, they drew 1:1 with Lebanon and Uruguay after losses against Australia and Georgia.

Qatar come into this game after 4 straight wins against Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Australia and North Korea.

These two sides are meeting for the 3rd time in recent years and Qatar have won once while the other two games ended in ties.

Qatar won convincingly in 2013 against Saudi Arabia (4:1) and a repeat performance would be an excellent start to their campaign.

Bookmakers make Saudi Arabia slight favourites to come out on top in this game (11/10).  Qatar are the underdogs (23/10), while the draw is currently (2/1).

Prediction: Saudi Arabia 1:2 Qatar

Ultimately this game should end up close however Qatar have much better overall form and based on their current odds, offer value from a betting perspective.

Saudi Arabia have faced and lost to many mediocre teams while Qatar have lost just 2 of their last 17 games and have faced some tough opposition along the way (Australia, Uzbekistan).

We should expect a tight game being the opening match in Group A with both teams playing not to lose – both sides have some decent players and this game will ultimately come down to which side can take their chances effectively.

This match gets underway at 16:00 GMT+1.
