Newcastle started this new season in an unsurprisingly poor manner after their manager Rafael Benitez failed to sign most of his transfer targets.
However, they have recovered well from losing their opening two games to Tottenham and Huddersfield.
They won three straight games against West Ham, Stoke City and Swansea and were 4th in the league table at some point before losing to Brighton – they have now moved down to the middle of the table and will no doubt be looking for all three points in this game.
Liverpool in contrast are currently lacking confidence in front of goal.
They drew their last game 1-1 away in Russia, a game in which they dominated the opposition penalty box yet scored only 1 goal with Daniel Sturridge, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino all missing glorious chances to put the game to bed.
Last weekend’s hard fought 3-2 win over Leicester remains their only win their last 6 matches in all competition.
Liverpool’s problems comes at both ends of the pitch – they have conceded 19 goals in their 11 games this season and have failed to convert more than 95% of the chances they have created so far.
Liverpool have not won 5 of their last 6 games at Newcastle.
