11 years ago, this game would have predictably be a one sided affair with Manchester United winning out rightly.
However, with the influx of new cash, their “noisy neighbours” have become a force to reckon with and Manchester City have been getting the upper hand in this clash since the end of the Ferguson era.
The Red Devils finished their Champions League group campaign with a win in midweek.
They came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 2-1 – a result that sees them top their group and means they have won two matches in under a week.
Their last Premier League game ended in an impressive 3-1 win at Arsenal and they will be looking to win against another title contender here again.
That win means United remain second in the league table however they still trail their visitors by eight points and a loss in this could mean them missing out on the league title in May next year.
Manchester City were inflicted their first loss of the season on Wednesday in the Champions League.
Although that game had no importance, the result could impact their confidence particularly because the team they fielded wasn’t particularly a weakened one.
In the Premier League however, they are almost perfect, winning 14 of their 15 games and are currently on a run of 13 consecutive wins.
They have needed late winners recently against Huddersfield, West Ham and Southampton but famous champions are known to win games just about anyhow.
These two sides have the best defensive record in the league however City have conceded in five of their last seven games while Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven.
