Roberto Martinez takes his very talented Belgian squad to this year’s FIFA World Cup as one of the favourites yet again, and many fans feel this is the last chance that this generation has to finally lift a trophy for their nation.
Portugal defended all the way to victory at Euro 2016, however, that same group of defenders have aged yet many of them have been selected for this competition again.
Portugal’s ageing defence may be their undoing at the World Cup, and they showed in their 2-2 draw against Tunisia that it could be difficult for them to defend against better sides.
The Belgians go to this World Cup with some of the best attacking talents in Europe at the moment, and they will be looking to test their readiness against Portugal who will be without Christiano Ronaldo.
The Belgians have scored in 19 of their last 20 friendly games, and they scored 43 goals in World Cup qualification.
They have been boosted further by the return to fitness of Romelu Lukaku who has scored in all of his last six games for the Red Devils. He also netted 11 times in qualification.
Portugal beat Belgium 2-1 the last time these two teams met, just before Euro 2016.
