Four years ago Germany were unstoppable at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The 7-1 demolition of Brazil in the semifinals showed just how ruthless the German Machines were.
However, their preparations to defend their crown in this year’s edition have not gone to plan.
After losing 1-0 to Brazil in March, they were again the losing side when they faced Austria in their last friendly game.
They lost 2-1 to the Austrians despite taking the lead and that was their first loss to their neighbours in over 30 years.
The Germans come into this game having failed to win any of their last five games, and their last victory came in the month of October 2017 – failing to beat Saudi Arabia is unthinkable.
Saudi Arabia will have revenge on their mind ahead of this game. The last time both teams met at a competition was at the 2002 World Cup and the Asians were beaten 8-0 by a Morislav Klose inspired Germany. This Saudi Arabian team don’t look like a team that can get revenge here.
Saudi Arabia have already played two warm up friendlies before this game. They were beaten 2-1 by Italy in the first match which is not the worst score line considering the quality of their opponents.
However, their 3-0 loss to Peru in their last game shows just how lacklustre they are and they very well might get another football lesson from the Germans here.
