Egypt vs Uruguay
Competition – FIFA World Cup
Stadium – Central Stadium, Yekaterinburg
Date: 15th June 2018
Kick-off time – 13:00 GMT
Egypt’s hero of the moment Mohamed Salah has had a brilliant season and even Christiano Ronaldo feels threatened by his rise to the top.
His five goals in World Cup qualifying helped Egypt qualify for their first World Cup in nearly three decades, but there is a high chance he could miss this game through injury.
He is still recovering from injury, but the Pharoahs visibly struggle without him, and their manager may risk playing him in this opener.
The Egyptians have had an underwhelming preparation for this competition.
Their 3-0 loss to Belgium in their last game was their third loss in six games, and they have not won any of those matches, so they head into this game low on confidence.
Uruguay surprisingly played just one warm up game before this competition, beating Uzbekistan 3-0. However, they have won their last three games with clean sheets having won two China Cup matches earlier.
They have a solid defence with Atletico Madrid’s duo of Jose Jimenez and Diego Godin, and up front they have the pleasure of being led by Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani.
The South Americans are outsiders to win the World Cup and how they start the competition will be key.
These two sides have met each other once and Uruguay won the 2006 friendly 2-0.
