Iran vs Spain Preview

Iran vs Spain

Competition – FIFA World Cup

Stadium – Kazan Arena

Date: 20th June 2018

Kick-off time – 19:00 GMT

Although Iran currently top their group after winning their first game, they have to be seen as lucky group leaders as they did not impress in that win against Morocco.

As a matter of fact, the Asians had just two shots on target for the whole 90 minutes and also had just 32% of possession.

The Iranians now face a Spanish side that is able to hold more possession and press them all over the pitch so they will most likely have very few chances to create anything in this game.

Iran have not won against any team inside the top 20 ranked FIFA teams since they beat Chile in 2015 and they have been defeated by Turkey and Tunisia so far this year.

Spain’s World Cup campaign almost started on the worst possible note as they fell behind inside ten minutes against Portugal.

They battled back to almost win that game 3-2, but a stunning late freekick from Cristiano Ronaldo made sure the game ended 3-3.

The Europeans are poised to earn their first win against this Iranian team that did almost nothing creatively in their first match against Morocco only to win through an own goal.

The Spaniards are also vulnerable at the back but they have enough quality to stop the Asians from threatening their goal.

As expected, Spain are long odds-on to win this match.
