Serbia vs Switzerland
Competition – FIFA World Cup
Stadium – Kaliningrad Stadium
Date: 22nd June 2018
Kick-off time – 19:00 GMT
Serbia qualified for this World Cup off the back of a disappointing attempt to reach Euro 2016 after they were deducted points and finished second from bottom in a surprisingly easy group.
They topped their qualifying World Cup group again to reach Russia 2018 ahead of the Republic of Ireland.
Serbia had the luxury of picking an array of stars for this competition ranging from Aleksandar Kolarov to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
In their first game against Costa Rica, Milinkovic-Savic frustrated his opponents with his height and skill but they failed to convert most of their chances before Kolarov netted the winner.
This match is important to them with a chance to reach the next round and they cannot afford to lose.
Switzerland held firm against Brazil in their opening game.
The key to their success was man-marking Brazil’s star-studded line up all over the pitch however they need to do more than that to avoid losing in this match, so it will be interesting to see if they come out and play more attack-minded.
The Swiss are now unbeaten in their last seven games and they have won four of those matches.
Impressively though, the Swiss have lost just once inside 90 minutes in their last 23 games and that match was their 2-0 loss to Portugal at Euro 2016.
