Liverpool vs Newcastle United Preview

Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Competition – Barclays Premier League

Stadium – Anfield

Date: 26th December 2018

Kick-off time – 15:00 GMT

Liverpool come into this game after an excellent week.  The unexpected defeat of Manchester City at the hands of Crystal Palace and their win over Wolves at Molineux has set Liverpool 4 points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side and it is their title to lose now.

Liverpool have also reached the knockout stages of the Champions League and even Jurgen Klopp is finding it hard to dismiss the fact that this might be a special season for the Reds.

With 20 more games to be played, Liverpool are playing against complacency at the moment and games like this are when you can drop points unexpectedly so the Reds must be focused for the entirety of this game.

Rafa Benitez is one of the best managers in the Premier League at the moment and the former Liverpool boss would be looking to frustrate the Reds when he takes his Magpies team to Merseyside here.

After a poor start to the season, the North East side have achieved some good results recently that has helped them to move above the relegation zone with 17 points in total.

Newcastle have won two, lost two and drawn two of their last 6 league games and they will be looking to avoid defeat here in the toughest of stadiums.

Liverpool have won one and drawn two of their last three matches against Newcastle.

Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up as long odds-on favourites to get the job done on Boxing Day.

Goal markets point to a high-scoring game as over 2.5 is trading odds-on while Mohamed Salah is clear favourite with bookmakers to score the first goal.
