Liverpool vs Barcelona

Competition – Champions League

Stadium – Anfield

Date: 7th May 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Liverpool go into one of their most important yet difficult games of the season as they try to overturn a 3-0 loss against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League here.

The Reds have been impressive for much of this season but they risk ending this season as one of the best teams to never win a trophy.

They are currently neck and neck with Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title and are currently top of the league table after beating Newcastle 3-2 at the weekend.

However, they lost Mohamed Salah in that game and Roberto Firmino is also not going to be able to play in this game.  It is hard to see Liverpool put up a team without those two men and overturning their first-leg deficit.

Barcelona meanwhile have already wrapped up the La Liga title and were able to rest most of their players for their weekend’s game against Celta Vigo as they were beaten 2-0.

With no Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez or Philippe Coutinho in that lineup, the Catalans should have enough star power to finish the job here at Anfield.

Anfield can be a very tough place to visit on a Champions League night and we can’t forget how Liverpool blew away AS Roma here last season.

Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up as very slight favourites to come out on top in this second leg however the odds are very close and Barcelona are within half a point.

Goal markets expect another lively game between these two teams as over 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Lionel Messi is favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
