Liverpool vs Arsenal Preview

Liverpool and Arsenal have served up some real crackers at Anfield in recent seasons and there is a feeling that this game could be flooded with goals as well.

The Reds won the Champions League in June and defeated Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup last week to continue their tradition as the best English team in Europe.

However, their lack of a Premier League title since the Premier League began remains an achilles heel for them.  They finished last season on 97 points, the third highest ever in the competition’s history, yet they couldn’t win the title.

They have begun this new campaign with two wins from as many games and come here top of the league table.  A win here would boost the confidence of their players and it will be interesting to see if they continue their recent tradition of always beating the Gunners at home.

Arsenal have started this season strongly with two wins from as many games.  The Gunners will be looking to build on that here and banish the ghost of last season when they were thrashed 5-1 despite taking the lead.

Dani Ceballos made his debut for Arsenal in their last league game and provided two assists – if the Spaniard can be allowed to influence this game too, the Gunners may earn a shock win.

Liverpool have not lost any of their last 8 matches against the Gunners and they have won their last 3 home matches against them, scoring at least 3 goals on each occasion.

Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up as strong odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Arsenal will start the game as underdogs.

Goal markets point to a lively game as over 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Mohamed Salah is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
