The final major of the year, the US PGA Championship begins this Thursday (8th-11th August) with over 150 of the world’s best players competing for one of the most sought after titles in professional golf.
This will be the 95th PGA Championship and Rory Mcilroy looks to defend his title after a stunning performance last year.
The winner will receive approx. $1.4 million from a total purse of approx. $8 million.
The tournament will take place at Oak Hill Country Club in New York.
Tiger Woods is currently favourite with bookmakers to win after a sublime performance in the WGC Bridgestone invitational just last week.
Current betting odds are below (click to enlarge – odds subject to change/vary from bookmaker to bookmaker):
Phil Mickelson is 12/1 second favourite despite winning the Open Championship and prior to that, the Scottish Open.
Masters champion Adam Scott is 16/1 after a very good performance in the Open Championship (tied 3rd).
Brandt Snedeker (22/1) won the Canadian Open a few weeks ago.
US Open Champion Justin Rose missed the cut at the Open Championship but is still fourth favourite with bookmakers at odds of 20/1.
Matt Kuchar challenged for the Canadian Open title and being one of the most consistent players on tour, he will have plenty of supporters at odds of 33/1.
Lee Westwood looked like winning the Open Championship on the final day before crumbling late (22/1).
Hunter Mahan led the Canadian Open before withdrawing due to his wife going into labour. He has played consistently well this year and will have plenty of supporters at 30/1.
Dustin Johnson was in contention to win the Canadian Open before driving his ball out of bounds on the 17th (33/1).
Gamingtips Tips:
Tiger Woods looked outstanding in the WGC Bridgestone invitational but odds of 3/1 are simply unacceptable for a major tournament.
Rather than backing Tiger at 3/1, we like Lee Westwood, Brandt Snedeker, Dustin Johnson, Henrik Stenson and Luke Donald who have all played consistently well this year and offer value from a betting perspective.
The goal of betting in this tournament is to be in it come Sunday and backing a short priced favourite definitely isn’t the way to go about having a fun punt on a major golf tournament.
