Getafe vs Barcelona Preview

Getafe had a great season last time despite the fact that they had just been promoted from the Segunda Division.

They ended the 2017/2018 campaign in an impressive 8^th position and they will be looking to build on that success in this campaign.

They are currently 7^th in the league standings, just one point behind 6^th position which is the final Europa League spot.

Before the end of 2018, they were in fine form having lost just one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

They should have been refreshed by the winter break, however, facing Barcelona in their first game of the year is a tough test and it will be interesting to see if they can earn yet another shock result here.

Barcelona won the La Liga title last season and they will be looking to defend it in this campaign as well.

With Real Madrid struggling without Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane, the Catalans were expected to pull clear of the rest of the division however Sevilla and Atletico Madrid have made it hard for them to achieve that.

Barca are top of the La Liga table by just 3 points thanks to their end of year form that saw them secure wins over the likes of Villarreal and Espanyol.  That means they come into this game with no defeats in their last 8 games in all competitions.

Barca haven’t lost any of their last 11 meetings against Getafe.

Unsurprisingly bookmakers have priced Barcelona up as strong odds-on favourites to get the job done while Lionel Messi is clear favourite with bookies to score the opening goal of the game.
