Manchester United vs Liverpool Preview

Manchester United vs Liverpool

Competition – Barclays Premier League

Stadium – Old Trafford

Date: 24th February 2019

Kick-off time – 14:05 GMT

As Chelsea and Manchester City take on each other in the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool will be hoping to get back to the top of the Premier League table with a win over Manchester United here.

This is the biggest game in the Premier League by a mile even though these teams have struggled to compete for the Premier League title in recent seasons.

Manchester United are enjoying some form of resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Norwegian who scored a famous winner against Liverpool some years back knows how big this game is.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Anfield and they know that only a win would guarantee that they remain inside the top four at the start of next week.

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table on goal difference, although they have a game in hand.

They have lacked goals in recent fixtures and their failure to beat the likes of Leicester City and West Ham has denied them the chance to move as many as 7 points clear at the top of the league table.

The Reds come into this game after a 0-0 home draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League – that result wasn’t the one their fans expected but they have still lost just once in the league this season and can stun Old Trafford in this game.

The 3-1 reverse loss was the last time Manchester United lost a game in the Premier League and they have gone on to lose just once in 13 subsequent fixtures under Solskjaer.

This game will be one of the biggest between these teams in recent memories – Liverpool have one win and one loss from the last six meetings between these sides which makes this an extremely interesting game.

Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up as slight favourites to come out on top in this game.  Manchester United will start the game as outsiders however they will certainly have their supporters.

Goal markets point to a high-scoring game as over 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on.

Mohamed Salah is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game closely followed by Daniel Sturridge.
