Villarreal vs Real Madrid Preview

Villarreal vs Real Madrid

Competition – Spanish Primera

Stadium – Estadio de la Cerámica

Date: 1st September 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

This fixture has become one of the most interesting games in the Spanish league calendar and it is understandable why most people can’t wait for it to start.  This fixture has served over 4.5 goals in 4 of its last 5 renewals.

With Villarreal looking generous in defence and Real Madrid fighting hard to stay in the title race, we may be in for another high scoring game here.

Real Madrid come into this game desperate for the points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Real Valladolid last time out.  They started that game brightly, but when they failed to take  their early chances, they soon struggled to get any clear cut chances.

Los Merengues took the lead after 82 minutes in that game, but they were pegged back 6 minutes later so they come here keen to get all three points.

Real Madrid have netted 80 goals against Villarreal in La Liga which is the highest they have against a single opponent in the competition and they will be keen on getting a couple more here.

Villarreal have been nothing to write home about at the back this season.  They squandered a 4-2 lead in their game against Granada to draw 4-4 in the first game of the season and lost by 2-1 to Levante last time out after conceding two penalties.

They may not struggle to score against teams, but their problems in keeping a clean sheet could cost them this game as well.

Bookmakers have priced Real Madrid up as slight odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Villarreal are priced up competitively at home.

Goal markets point to a high-scoring game as over 2.5 goals is trading long odds-on prior to kick-off while Karim Benzema is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
