Luis Suarez to Barcelona Transfer News: Masterstroke or Mistake

Despite being banned for four months from all football related activities by FIFA after biting Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup match between Uruguay and Italy, prolific Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is on the brink of being signed by Catalan giants Barcelona.

The Uruguayan striker recently penned a deal tying him to Liverpool until 2018 but appears ready for a new challenge in Spain.

Barcelona clearly sees the benefits of having Suarez in their lineup as significantly outweighting the potential risks.

After all, Suarez, Neymar, Messi and co. will be formidable opponents for any team next season. Terrorizing defenders and ripping opposing teams apart, almost at will. Suarez topped the scoring charts in the Barclays Premier League last season with a record equalling 31 goals. Such feats do not go unnoticed.

Despite his obvious flaws, Luis Suarez is a fierce competitor. His never say die attitude and willingness to put his body on the line propelled Liverpool from a 7th place finish in 2012-2013 to 2nd place in 2013-2014, pushing eventual champions Manchester City to the finish line. He is a rare talent indeed, players of his calibre are scarce. Scarcity creates value, Liverpool have set a hefty price tag of £70 plus million for any potential suitors.

It’s very difficult for anyone to support Luis Suarez after all that has happened – this is the third time he has bitten an opponent on the field of play.He has also been accused of racially abusing Patrice Evra of Manchester United during a Barclays Premier League match in October 2011 for which he served a ten match ban.

That being said, his persona, passion and flair has won him many fans around the world  Inspiring them to be all that they can be. Controversy may follow him wherever he goes, but Barcelona will get a player in his prime who can’t seem to stop scoring. Masterstroke.
