Even before dust settles on the German soccer machine’s 7-1 drubbing and humiliation of Brazil in the World Cup 2014 semi-finals where Sami Khedira played a significant role scoring one of the goals, the German international is back in the news.
Reports concerning his future have gone into over-drive. The Real Madrid star is tipped for a big-money transfer this summer, potentially 30 million pounds.
But can Arsene Wenger REALLY spend 30 million for a Central Mid-fielder?
Arsenal is just one of the many clubs that want the 27-year-olds signature. Are the Gunners up to par with the 30-million pound bidding or Khedira will end elsewhere? Or maybe Wenger is planning on a last minute about-turn like he did in Mezut Ozil’s case…
There are reports that with a transfer budget of 100 million pounds this summer, there will be plenty of money left to land the German even after finalizing the signings of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy.
What about making him the Highest Paid Player?
The headache at the Emirates is that if Khedira is signed by the Gunners, they will have to make him their highest paid player to match or better his current wages at Real Madrid. This title is currently being held by another former Madridsta, Mesut Ozil who earns approx. 180,000 pounds per week.
Arsenal seems to be open to the idea of passing Ozil’s mantle to Khedira, an issue which is causing jitters with the Londoners’ other members of the current squad than Ozil himself! This is one of the major reasons why the club could still be looking elsewhere in their quest to land a new central midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin are also being considered as possible targets if the Khedira deal fails to fruitify.
According to the Spanish media outlet, Cadena Ser, the present situation is that though representatives of Arsenal have contacted Khedira’s agent over a possible move, negotiations are presently stalled over his salary demands.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is not satisfied with Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, he is reportedly also eying Khedira – who he worked with at Real Madrid –, especially after his sterling performance against Brazil. Currently, pundits dismiss this as just fleeting interest but Arsenal will be keen to snap any deal with the mid-fielder sooner rather than later, given the Blues’ comparable financial muscle.
