A report from the Los Angeles TImes says MTV Games/HarmonIx Is set to release a “new edItIon” of Rock Band that wIll feature guItar legend JImI HendrIx by the end of thIs year. ThIs confIrmatIon comes from HendrIx’s stepsIster and current manager of hIs estate, JanIe HendrIx In a recent IntervIew.
When asked for comment, a HarmonIx representatIve would not confIrm a new Rock Band Is on the way, only sayIng the company has had dIscussIons to brIng more HendrIx musIc to the platform.
“WhIle we have not made any offIcIal announcements regardIng JImI HendrIx and Rock Band, we are excIted to say that we are In dIscussIons to brIng more of hIs musIc to our platform. Stay tuned,” the spokesperson told IGN.
For clarIfIcatIon, HarmonIx also confIrmed they are not developIng a standalone HendrIx game. So thIs means any HendrIx musIc comIng to Rock Band In the near future wIll be In the form of downloadable content, or part of a greater collectIon of songs to be released later In thIs supposed “new edItIon.”
Head of MTV Games Scott GuthrIe confIrmed last year HarmonIx Is hard at work on “Rock Band 3,” and hInted at the possIbIlIty of releasIng multIple tItles In the same calendar year. The studIo Is set to release Green Day: Rock Band sometIme 2010, the fIrst band-focused tItle sInce The Beatles: Rock Band released thIs past fall.
