Manchester City vs Shakhtar Donetsk Preview

When Manchester City made their summer signings they had a lot of critics who did not understand why Pep Guardiola would spend almost 150 million on defensive reinforcements and their first two games of the season did not help as they failed to impress in a win over Brighton and draw at home to Everton.

However, they have been unstoppable since that stalemate against the Toffees with six wins on the bounce including a 5-0 battering of fellow Premier League title contenders Liverpool – they have scored an astonishing 25 goals in those games and started their Champions League journey with another 4-0 win at Feyenord, although Shakhtar represent a tougher opponent to Feyenord, it is hard not to see the Cityzens performing well here again.

Shakhtar beat Napoli at home in their first Champions League game of the season which preserved their unbeaten start to the new season.

They have now won 8 of their last 9 matches with one draw and they will look to curtail this free scoring City side when they visit the Etihad in this game.

This will be the very first meeting between these two sides and the Ukrainians will be hoping to use their superior European experience to nick a win in this game.
