Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Preview

Borussia Dortmund have set the pace early in this season as they sit 5 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table – a standing that has led defending champions Bayern Munich to fire Italian manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

They have been solid if not spectacular setting a new record of keeping a clean sheet in their opening 5 games of a new season under a new manager and last season’s top scorer Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has continued where he stopped last season with 8 goals already making him joint top scorer this season.

However, the focus should be on Maximilian Philipp as he has scored two braces in his last two home games and he could continue that run here.

Dortmund are currently enjoying their best home unbeaten run which stretches to 41 games since April 2015 and they have won 83% of their home games within that period.

RB Leipzig were the toast of the German league last season however even though it is still early in the season they are obviously not as good domestically as they were last season.

Admittedly their participation in Europe has played a major role in their poor showing domestically so far.

They recently won what would be described as favourable fixtures against FC Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt but they lost their last European game 2-0 at Besiktas with star striker Timo Werner famously complaining of the deafening noise at the Vodacom Arena.

The Signal Iduna Park is also famous for the noise from fans and it will be interesting to see if he will be unable to perform again in this game.

Leipzig are obviously struggling in front of goal and with Borussia Dortmund’s defence looking very good, it is hard to see them coming away from this game with victory.
