This competition is Arsenal’s only hope of ending Arsene Wenger’s reign with a trophy and they made the task of getting to the final more difficult for themselves last Thursday.
The Gunners were ahead after 61 minutes after Atletico had had a man sent off in the first half, but a combination of poor defending and sharp attacking instincts from Antoine Griezmann saw Atletico Madrid equalize on the 82nd minute.
The Gunners now need a win or a high scoring draw to progress to the final.
Atletico won their very next game 1-0 against Alaves which means they now have two wins, three draws and two losses from their last seven games in all competitions and while this is not a solid set of results, their home form has been solid.
At home, the Spaniards haven’t lost since January when they were beaten by Sevilla in the Spanish Cup.
They have also not conceded a goal at home in their last 11 home matches, and ten of those game have ended in wins for them.
Arsenal have six losses from their last nine away games, and they have not won a single league game away from home this year – their fans won’t be overly optimistic, but they have a good away record in Europe this season.
