Poland vs Colombia
Competition – FIFA World Cup
Stadium – Kazan Arena
Date: 24th June 2018
Kick-off time – 19:00 GMT
Most knew this was an evenly matched group when the draws were made for the World Cup but we still expected Poland to qualify as one of the top two sides, however, they put in a lackluster performance in their first game against Senegal and lost the match 2-1. They are now playing catch up.
The Europeans perhaps underrated Senegal and never really looked like coming to the party until they were 2-0 down.
They had deflected their first Senegalese goal in before a terrible back pass from Gregorz Krychowiak was intercepted by Mbaye Niang to score the African’s second of the game.
While Krychowiak redeemed himself a little by scoring a consolation, they have it all to do now.
Colombia were also 2-1 losers in their first game, however, theirs was understandable after they went a goal and a man down inside the opening three minutes when Carlos Sanchez was sent off for blocking a Japanese shot that was goal bound and Shinji Kagawa scored the ensuing penalty.
Colombia did not allow the goal or Red card to affect them as they took the game to their opponents.
Juan Fernando Quintero netted a sweet free kick to draw them level before the break, however, the Japanese were much improved in the second period and took advantage of being a man up to score the winner.
These teams have met just once before and Colombia won the 2006 friendly game 2-1.
