Manchester City vs Liverpool
Competition – International Champions Cup 2018
Stadium – MetLife Stadium
Date: 26th July 2018
Kick-off time – 01:05 GMT
After starting their opening International Champions Cup games with losses to Borussia Dortmund, these English sides will be looking to get their preseason going with a win here.
Pep Guardiola has signed just Riyad Mahrez this summer and the Cityzens will still be without most of their World Cup participants in this game.
Guardiola was unhappy with their treatment at the hands of Dortmund who were putting in strong challenges against his players and he will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t ask his own players to do the same.
Manchester City beat Liverpool 5-0 when they first met at Etihad last season, however, the Reds have since won the last three meetings against City including their home and away Champions League quarterfinal clash last season.
Liverpool suffered their first lost of the pre-season on Sunday when they were beaten 3-1 by a young Borussia Dortmund side.
Loris Karius was at the centre of it again after a poor performance that ended in him spilling the ball to the path of a Dortmund player who scored the final goal.
Liverpool could welcome back Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for this game, however, their match against Manchester United is a more realistic time for the Africans to return.
Joel Matip will also miss this game after injuring himself within 20 minutes of their match against Dortmund.
Naby Keita continues to look good, while Daniel Sturridge appears fitter than usual also so the Reds do have the players to cause City problems here.
