Manchester United vs Leicester City Preview

The World Cup ended a month ago and this month has been the longest in our lives as football fans, but competitive football has returned with Manchester United hosting Leicester City in the Premier League’s opening game.

The Red Devils have had a summer of their manager groaning and complaining about a lack of signings and other things like the usefulness of the International Champions Cup, but the time has come for the Portuguese manager to deliver, and it would be interesting to see if his third season curse will catch up with him and get him sacked.

The Red Devils have a seriously depleted squad for this opener.

The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Phil Jones are all unavailable following their extended break, while Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic and Diogo Dalot also miss this game with injuries.

Leicester City have lost Riyad Mahrez this summer for a record fee so it will be interesting to see how they cope with his absence for the first time since 2014.

Leicester have had a summer of massive recruitments and the likes of James Madison and Rachid Ghezzal need to hit the ground running sooner rather than later if the Foxes are to have a good season.

This game could be a low scoring affair as Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, and Jesse Lingard who scored 44 percent of Manchester United’s goals are all missing, while Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy who netted 57 percent of Leicester City’s goals are also missing this game.
