Chelsea vs Lyon Preview

Chelsea will be playing this clash with hopes of overcoming their Wembley heartbreak and end their pre-season on a high note.

Maurizio Sarri’s men have already started their season, although not in the best possible fashion.

They lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday 2-0, two goals from Sergio Aguero was enough to break their hearts.

While Manchester City played some sublime football, Chelsea’s defence was far too sloppy and that is one thing Sarri needs to address before the season begins if he wants to achieve more than Antonio Conte did in his last season.

The Blues allowed balls to be slipped through to Aguero almost at will.

While Sarri has promised to bring an attractive attacking brand of football to the Bridge, without a good defence, you can achieve almost nothing in England and Liverpool can attest to that.

This is Chelsea’s final International Champions Cup game.  Their previous two matches have ended in draws after normal time – they beat Inter Milan on penalties in their first game, and were beaten by Arsenal on penalties in their second Game.

Lyon sealed their return to the Champions League last season, and they will be hoping for a similarly good campaign in the French league again this season.

Good things seem to be on the horizon for the French men after most of their shrewd buys like Memphis Depay and Mariano Diaz stood out last season.

Lyon also head into this season having managed to keep hold of Nabil Fekir and they will be hoping he can replicate the form that saw him net 23 times for them last season.

Lyon beat Benfica 3-2 in their first ICC match before losing 1-0 to Inter Milan on Saturday.

Beating Chelsea would be a huge confidence booster for them ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
