Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Competition – Spanish Primera
Stadium – Estadio Santiago Bernabéu
Date: 29th September 2018
Kick-off time – 19:45 GMT
This is the biggest game of the Spanish season so far, and the shocking results of the midweek fixtures that saw Real Madrid get swept away in Sevilla has made this game even more important as Los Blancos always tend to struggle against this particular opponent.
Atletico Madrid would be looking to make a statement of intent in this game as they look to challenge for the league title yet again.
They had struggled at the beginning of the season when they were defeated at Celta Vigo and collected just one point at home against Eibar.
However, they seem to have turned their form around as they come into this game off the back of a three games winning streak in all competitions and they will be looking to add more misery to Julen Lopetegui’s side.
Real Madrid had the chance to get back to the top of the league table against Sevilla in midweek, but they were 3-0 down by half time and never really looked like coming back into that game.
Real have their calamitous defending to blame for that defeat, and if they don’t fix their backline, they are in for more trouble in this derby.
Atletico have an impressive record at this ground and they should be confident in keeping their record in this game.
The last time Diego Simeone’s men lost at the Bernabeu was during the 2012/2013 season – they come into this fixture off the back of three wins from their last three visits, and they have lost just once in their last 10 Madrid derbies in the La Liga.
Bookmakers make Real Madrid steady home favourites while goal markets are undecided as to whether or not there will be goals.
This game gets underway at 19:45 UK time.
