Newcastle United vs Manchester United Preview

Newcastle United vs Manchester United

Competition – Barclays Premier League

Stadium – St James’ Park

Date: 2nd January 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Newcastle United are in another relegation battle after Rafa Benitez managed to steer them clear last season.

The lack of investment in their playing squad has limited the amount of impact that the Spanish tactician can make on the Tyneside team, yet he is still doing his best to keep them in the Premier League.

The Magpies come into this game in 15th position but after pulling away from the relegation zone following some good performances in November, they come into this game with no wins from their last three games ahead of this match.

Manchester United are enjoying a new lease of life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the hugely unpopular Jose Mourinho was fired from his job at Old Trafford some three matchdays ago.

The Red Devils are currently 19 points off the top of the Premier League table so their only realistic pursuit now is to win a place inside the top four.

They come into this game in 6th position and 8 points behind Chelsea who are 4th.

Since the arrival of Solskjaer, they have been narrowing the gap between themselves and the other teams at the top of the league table, and a good performance here could see them overtake Arsenal on goal difference if the Gunners lose.

Newcastle have only one win from their last 8 matches against Manchester United.

Manchester United are currently trading odds-on with bookmakers to get the job done here while Romelu Lukaku is clear favourite with bookies to score the first goal.

This game gets underway at 20:00 BST.
