Manchester City vs Liverpool Preview

Manchester City vs Liverpool

Competition – Barclays Premier League

Stadium – Etihad Stadium

Date: 3rd January 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

This game is probably the most important game in the English Premier League title race and if Manchester City lose to Liverpool they could be effectively surrendering the title to the Reds.

When these teams met at the Etihad last season, Manchester City ran out 5-0 winners after Liverpool had gone a man down following a red card to Sadio Mane.

That win was the start of something special for Pep Guardiola’s men as they went on to win the title by a record points difference.

This time, winning against Liverpool would help cut the points gap to 4 points but the Reds would still be in pole position in the title race and anything short of a win would mean that it is Liverpool’s title to lose.

The defending champions recovered from a temporary slump of two consecutive losses to beat Southampton in their last league game, but they come here with three losses from their last 5 league games.

Liverpool are arguably the most in-form team in Europe at the moment and Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking to use this game to show just how bad they want to win this trophy.

The Reds are currently unbeaten in the Premier League and they have won all 8 of their last 8 games in all competitions including a 5-1 hammering of Arsenal in their last league game.

This game is arguably their toughest game as the second half of the season begins and a win here would take their confidence sky high.

Bookmakers have priced Manchester City up as favourites to come out on top however the odds are close and Liverpool will undoubtedly have their supporters.

Sergio Aguero is clear favourite to score the first goal while over 2.5 goals is pointing to a high-scoring affair.
