Manchester City vs Burton Albion
Competition – Carabao Cup
Stadium – Etihad Stadium
Date: 9th January 2019
Kick-off time – 19:45 GMT
After storming to a 7-0 win over Rotherham, Manchester City come into this Carabao semi final with more than enough confidence to avoid a giant killing and head straight to their second consecutive final in this competition.
December wasn’t the best of months for Manchester City as they were beaten three times in the league and lost their top spot to Liverpool in the process.
However, they stormed back with a morale-boosting 2-1 win to end the Reds’ unbeaten run and reduce the points gap between them to 4 points.
Pep Guardiola admitted last week that he was addicted to winning and wants to win every trophy this season – it will be interesting to see how they handle this stubborn Burton side.
Burton Albion are the surprise package of the season as they defeated Aston Villa, Burnley and Middlesbrough to reach this stage of the competition.
Despite their impressive progress, they have scored not more than two goals in those games and it is hard to make a case for them to get a result from this match.
Generally, they are a team in form as they are unbeaten in their last 4 games, winning 2 and drawing 2.
They have scored at least 3 goals in each of those wins; the last of which was a 4-0 win at Rochdale.
Unsurprisingly, bookmakers have priced Manchester City up as if they cannot lose.
Goal markets suggest this will be extremely lively as over 3.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Sergio Aguero is clear favourite to score the first goal.
