Liverpool vs Bayern Munich Competition – Champions League Stadium – Anfield Date: 19th February 2019 Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT
Liverpool will be looking to repeat last seasons heroics as they look to reach the Champions League final this season however they have the task of eliminating Bayern Munich and a good result in this first leg would enhance their chances greatly. The Reds are currently leading the race for the Premier League title. Most of their fans would prefer to end their wait for a league title than win the Champions League, but the club needs the funds and there is no guarantee that they will finally win the league title. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be out to show the Germans just how good he is as he welcomes his former arch-rivals when he was the manager of Borussia Dortmund. While Liverpool are looking to win the Premier League title, Bayern Munich have struggled this season and they are in danger of losing their German league title to Borussia Dortmund. The Germans have picked up some form in the second half of the season and they will be looking to take advantage of Virgil van Dijk’s suspension to make sure this first leg ends with at least something to play for in the return leg. Bayern will be without Thomas Muller, but that will unlikely affect them the same as the absence of van Dijk will affect Liverpool as the Reds have no replacement for the Dutch man. Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up as steady favourites to come out on top in the opening leg of this tie. Goal markets point a high-scoring game as over 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on. Bookmakers have priced Liverpool up ahead of Munich in the outright market so Liverpool are expected to qualify over two legs however they need to be careful about conceding too many away goals in this opening fixture.
