Manchester City vs Schalke 04 Preview

Manchester City vs Schalke 04

Competition – UEFA Champions League

Stadium – Etihad Stadium

Date: 12th March 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Manchester City will continue their assault on the Champions League when they take on Schalke 04 in the second leg of this tie.

The Cityzens survived a major scare to win the first leg 3-2 in Germany and their three away goals all but confirms that they will be in the next round barring a collapse at home.

Saturday was yet another day that Pep Guardiola’s men failed to net in the first half, but a stroke of good fortune that saw Raheem Sterling score a goal that was clearly offside opened the floodgates for them in the second half and they went on to win the game 3-1 against Watford.

This game should be tougher as the Germans have it all to play for and you can never say never in the Champions League as was demonstrated by City’s rivals last week.

Schalke 04 come into this game in the worst possible shape and their fans will know that their present form doesn’t promise anything tangible from this game.

Since the first leg where they fought well, they have lost three consecutive games, conceding 11 goals and scoring just twice.

After ending last season in a Champions League place they have been dismal this season that they are currently 14th in the league table, just 4 points off the relegation zone.

The visitors come here without a win in their last 6 games in all competitions, 5 of which have ended in losses for them, so it will be interesting to see how this game plays out given that this is essentially an all or nothing game for them.

Bookmakers have priced Manchester City up as though they cannot lose this game while Schalke are massive underdogs to cause an upset.

Goal markets point to an extremely lively second leg as over 3.5 goals is currently trading odds on while Sergio Aguero is favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
