Watford vs Southampton Preview

Watford vs Southampton

Competition – Barclays Premier League

Stadium – Vicarage Road Stadium

Date: 23rd April 2019

Kick-off time – 19:45 GMT

Southampton visit Vicarage road as they continue their push towards ending the season outside the relegation zone for yet another season.

The Saints haven’t been consistent enough to have secured safety at the moment so they need a good performance and at least a share of the points to keep their hopes high with 3 games left to play.

Watford, on the other hand, are looking to end the season inside the top 7 and possibly secure a place in the Europa League.

They are in the FA Cup final but they would feel it is easier for them to reach Europe via finishing in 7th position than through winning the FA Cup so they will be keen on getting the points here.

The Hornets are currently 8th in the league table, level on points with Everton who are currently 7th, but the Toffees have played a game more than them so a win here would send them 3 points ahead of their rivals.

Southampton have a bigger battle to fight at the bottom of the league table.  They are currently five points clear of the relegation placings with 4 games to go.

Their next three opponents will be Bournemouth, West Ham and Huddersfield which are all winnable games.  The Saint’s will want at least a point from this game to give their morale a much needed boost ahead of their season run-in.

Bookmakers have priced Watford up as steady favourites to come out on top at home in this game.

Goal markets point to a lively game as over 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Andre Gray is favourite to score the opening goal of the game followed by Danny Ings.
