Uruguay will be looking to end their wait to win this competition by securing a place in the semifinals with a victory here. They have also not reached the semifinal stage since they last won the competition in 2011.
With the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani on their side, it wasn’t surprising that they started their campaign with a 4-0 win over Ecuador however they were frustrated and drew 2-2 against Japan in their next group before bouncing back with a win in their last group game against Chile.
Chile were considered the toughest team they would face in the group stages and that game should prepare them well for this match.
Peru were one of the most exciting teams to watch at the last World Cup with their stunning attacking style of play and the blistering pace of their attacking players such a joy to behold.
However, they weren’t able to reach the knockout stage of that competition and they will now be hoping to end their 40 year wait to win the Copa America in this year’s edition.
The Peruvians secured progression to this stage with a draw against Venezuela and a win over Bolivia, but they were thrashed by Brazil 5-0 in their last group game.
Their loss against Brazil just shows how exposed they can get when they go forward to try to attack their opponents. Leaving so much space behind against Uruguay here could also cost them this game with Luis Suarez lurking.
Bookmakers have priced Uruguay up as odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Peru are priced as slight underdogs.
Goal markets point to a low-scoring game as under 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Luis Suarez is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
