Madagascar vs Nigeria Preview

Madagascar vs Nigeria

Competition – Africa Cup of Nations

Stadium – Alexandria Stadium

Date: 30th June 2019

Kick-off time – 17:00 BST

Madagascar have been one of the surprise teams of this AFCON in Egypt and they come into this game with a real chance of progression to the quarterfinals.

The little-known Island nation are currently second in group B after winning one and drawing one of the two matches so far.  They need a draw in this game to reach the knockout stages but they may find this excitingly young Nigerian side too much to handle.

Nigeria secured qualification to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Guinea in their last match.  That was their second win in as many games in this competition so far.

Gernot Rohr fielded almost an entirely different team in their last game from the players who played the first game and they managed to get the same result so expect the German to tinker a little bit more with his team selection here again and it might just work in favour of Madagascar.

Guinea also have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals should they beat Burundi with a high score while Nigeria secures all three points here so this should be enough to spur Madagascar on to fight for at least a point in this game.

Bookmakers have priced Nigeria up as slight odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Madagascar will start the game as underdogs.

Goal markets point to a low-scoring game as under 2.5 goals is currently trading long odds-on while Ebere Paul Onauachu and Odion Jude Ighalo are vying for favourtism in the first goalscorer market.
