Senegal vs Algeria Preview

Senegal will be looking to continue their impressive outing in this African Cup of Nations and hopefully end their campaign with the AFCON trophy in the bag.

Led by the likes of Sadio Mane and Idrissa Gana, Senegal has been one of the most formidable sides in this competition.

The Teranga Lions come into this final having won all but one of their matches in this competition so far.  That single loss came in the group stages against this same Algerian side and they will be looking to avenge it when they take to the field in this game.

Algeria remain the only side who hasn’t tasted defeat in this competition and it would be amazing if they can go all the way without losing a single game.

However, they face a tough task in beating this Senegalese side for the second time in as many games as the West Africans have improved since losing to them in the group stages.

Algeria had to be a little fortunate to beat Nigeria in the semifinals as they needed a late wonderful free kick from Riyad Mahrez to see off the Super Eagles.

That was the second consecutive game that they conceded a goal in the competition having not conceded a single goal in in the group stages.

Both of these teams are solid at the back and we expect a low scoring final in this game.

Bookmakers have priced Senegal up as very slight favourites to come out on top in this game however the odds are extremely tight and a rush of cash would see Algeria go off as favourites.  At present, less than one fifth of a point separates these two sides with oddsmakers.

Goal markets point to an extremely tight game as under 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on prior to kick-off while Sadio Mane is favourite to score the opening goal of the game closely followed by Mbaye Diagne.
